Kunsang Choedon
October 2020
Kunsang was admitted to the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) in Suja, in northern India, when she was 11 years old and supported by a TRAS sponsor for 8 years. In Class X she moved to the TCV in Dharamsala.
Her parents had been diagnosed with TB and had to leave home to attend the Tibetan Delek Hospital in Dharamsala for treatment. They approached the Tibetan Settlement Welfare Office for help and as their request was genuine Kunsang was admitted to the TCV in Suja under the classification of ‘destitute’.
The school helped her gain confidence as her parents got better and Kunsang went on to graduate from Class XII. She has now been accepted at St Aloysius College in Mangaluru to obtain her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. She has written to TRAS stating that she no longer needs sponsorship as her parents are now able to support her and she hopes that some other child will benefit from this program.
Without the continued support of a TRAS sponsor, Kunsang may not have achieved this accomplishment. A copy of her letter is below.
