Bronwen Gouws Memorial Fund

The Bronwen Gouws Memorial Fund was established in 2011 in memory of Bronwen Gouws (1967-2001).

An exceptional and caring elementary school teacher in West Vancouver, Bronwen influenced the lives of hundreds of children in British Columbia, providing them with a solid, well-rounded, excellent primary education. Bronwen also touched the lives of many others through her abilities to lead and inspire, her friendship, her compassion, and her sense of humour. To know Bronwen was to admire and love her!

Through The Bronwen Gouws Memorial Fund, Bronwen’s influence will continue – through the support of children in the Himalayas who are in desperate need of an education.

In honour of Bronwen’s passion for education and teaching, her love of children, and the joy she received from travel to many parts of the world, the money raised will go to the READI Nepal education project in Humla, a pilot project to educate 30 of the poorest children (50% girls) from dalit (untouchable), minority or conflict-affected villages in Humla District, the poorest and most remote of Nepal’s 75 Districts.

If you would like to make a donation to the READI Nepal project in Bronwen’s memory, you can do so by:

  • Mailing a cheque made out to TRAS to the TRAS office. Please indicate on the cheque that your donation is for The Bronwen Gouws Memorial Fund for READI Nepal
  • Paying by credit card by phoning the TRAS office
  • Paying by credit card online through CanadaHelps. Under Fund/Designation please select The Bronwen Gouws Memorial Fund for READI Nepal. (CanadaHelps is a registered charity and public foundation that supports Canadian charities by providing online donations; it charges TRAS a 3.9% fee to cover the cost of credit card transactions and its other operating costs.)

Thank you for helping to spread Bronwen’s compassion and joyous, generous spirit to children in the Himalayas.
