
IDEA, in partnership with the Ministry of Health in Nepal and with the support of TRAS, has successfully trained 60 skilled birth attendants since 2022.
TRAS is supporting IDEA in launching Refresher Courses for these graduates. These courses will provide updated knowledge and professional skills with special focus on safe motherhood, mother and child heath, preventive health, counselling, safe deliveries and managing complicated cases.
The Ministry of Health has National Health guidelines for the capacity development of its health professionals through on-the-job training. The focus of the refresher training will be on:
Module 1 – Basics Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) care
Module 2 – Emergency Obstetric First Aid
Module 3 -Psychological Birth Care
Module 4 – Identification and Management of Complications during MNH care

This project will be implemented in partnership with the Provincial Health Training Centre, Lamjung Hospital, Lumjung, in western Nepal, with financial support from TRAS.
At the end of the project, 60 Skilled Birth Attendants will have participated in the three day course.
The full project for 2026 will be $16,000 CAD. This will include food and accommodation for the trainers and participants, trainers’ daily allowance, training materials and stationery, clinical support from the hospital, travel allowance for the trainers and participants and miscellaneous cost.
